Raleigh NC Dentist Office

Welcome to Stonehenge Family and Cosmetic Dentistry! Our dental office treats patients like family. We value our patients and are committed to finding the best treatment options that meet our patient’s specific goals, budgets, and needs. Our dental team can find the best solutions for patients of all ages. In fact, we can provide regular dental cleanings for children and adults.

However, oral health care is more than dental cleanings. Preventative or general dental care can prevent further oral health problems, while dental restorations fully transform the smile. Patients who want brighter or straighter smiles can also receive cosmetic care in our office after we ensure they are in good oral health.

Dr. Cynthia Elderkin and Dr. Claudel Giggey are experienced dentists that have continued their education to learn the latest dental techniques and treatments. As members of the Raleigh-Wake County Dental Society, a local study club, they learn from colleagues about specialties in the dental field. Continual education helps Dr. Elderkin and Dr. Giggey deliver outstanding care to their patients.

Dental Technology and Treatment

Due to advancements in technology, our office can provide safer, more effective dental care. We welcome you to learn more about the quality treatments and technology we offer:

Digital X-rays

Dental X-rays are a valuable tool we use to identify potential conditions that could threaten your wonderful smile. X-rays are instrumental in detecting abnormalities below the tooth surface and between the teeth. Tooth decay, signs of gum disease, early detection of hairline fractures of the jaw or teeth, unhealthy roots, diminishing bone density, and the presence of tumors and cysts give beneficial information to make accurate diagnoses and help determine the proper treatment.

Everyone’s oral health varies, so we will evaluate your needs and recommend which type of X-rays you may need during your dental visit. We may advise taking a full series of X-rays or panoramic images during an initial visit to assess your current oral health status. Digital X-rays reduce radiation exposure. X-rays can determine if there is any damage to your mouth that is unseen from the surface. This diagnostic tool can be used to detect problems as early as possible, minimizing the treatment that would be needed.

Sports Mouthguards and Nightguards

We can create custom sports mouthguards using flexible materials. Our team works with local dental labs to craft customized, comfortable sports mouthguards. Sports mouthguards protect teeth and braces from damage. Wearing a properly-fitted sports mouthguard also prevents the risk of losing permanent teeth during contact sports.

Nightguards may seem similar to sports mouthguards but have a completely different use. Our nightguards are made of hard acrylic plastic and cover the upper or lower teeth. Patients wear nightguards during sleep to prevent teeth clenching and grinding. Wearing a nightguard prevents further wear to teeth and helps the jaw relax.

Professional Whitening Treatment

Unlike store-bought whitening toothpaste, gels, or strips, professional whitening treatments can provide real results for patients with tooth stains. During treatment, patients place a whitening gel is placed in customized trays. They leave the trays on their teeth for 30 to 60 minutes at a time. After ten to fifteen sessions, patients can receive brighter smiles. We also recommend professional dental cleanings before whitening treatment for more effective care.
